Jack Torrance's Masterpiece Finally Published
Friday, January 9, 2009 at 2:23PM
How did nobody think of this before Phil Buehler? The admitted Stephen King fan has
published the book Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) was working on in
The Shining.

Called All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy, the book is almost exactly what you'd expect: 80
pages of the line "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" repeated over and over again, typed on the
page in various artistic ways.
The inside cover of the book contains the following remarks:

"The idea has probably been marinating for years, because I loved the movie and the Stephen King book,"
Buehler told
The Guardian. "I'd just finished my own obsessive art project [and] it was an idea I had over the Christmas
holidays."
You can buy the softcover version of All Work and No Play for $8.95 and the hardcover for $22.95 at
Blurb, which also has a little preview you can check out.

"Jack Torrance completed All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy while he was acting as the winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel in the mountains of Colorado. He died unexpectedly and it is left to the reader to determine if whether or not he completed his manuscript."This is clearly an idea whose time has come:

Well its a really cool idea but I think the price is a little too steep. The softcover has an alright price. But I couldn't imagine paying $20 dollars for this. Its great if your a fan of Kubrick or just the movie I guess. What they should have done or should do is give you s copy of the softcover one with a special edition of the film. Maybe the King book, this book, and the film all in one pack.
Anyway good idea for the diehard fans.
Too bad Phil! Your version looks like a cheap rip-off of Klaus Scheruebel’s "Jack Torrance’s All Work and No Play", 600 pages volume from 2006/2008!!! There seems to be even an earlier version of this that Klaus Scheruebel has produced in 1993 (check out the press release of the exhibition "Reconsidering Jack Torrance’s All Work and No Play", April 2008!
