Raimi Thinking Morbius for 'Spider-Man 4'

Spider-Man 3 was so bad, I don't care if they ever make a Spidey 4. They will, of course, and it's scheduled for 2011, but honestly, do you want a 35-year-old Peter Parker?

Sam Raimi does, and so does Marvel and Sony, because they've backed the truck up to Tobey Maguire's house. Whatshername will be back, too. And now Raimi's dropping obvious hints about what villain he'd like to see in the fourth flick.

“I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius,” Raimi tells Empire (via Slashfilm). “He’s really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural.”

Morbius isn't the first name that comes to mind, but he's an interesting villain, for sure. It would also allow Spider-Man to get Batman dark, and that's going to be a welcome worn out by many a superhero movie between now and then. There has been speculation that The Lizard would be involved in the fourth movie, and if that's true, then I say just use The Lizard. You can carry a full movie with him, and you certainly don't need two more villains.

The problem with Morbius is I don't know if he's a headline guy. He's more of a supporting villain, which works great in the comic, but I'm not sure those have translated very well to the screen. I guess it's all in how you write it. You could have two minor villains, one occupying 35 minutes and one an hour and that could fly.

Two cool things about Morbius: He gets to drain Spider-Man's blood at one point in the comic, and he's easy to cast. Pick a guy under six feet with dark hair. There you go. The rest is make-up.

"Under six feet with dark hair." Okay... how about Gary Coleman then?

Seriously though, Raimi needs to move on. I am worried about writing a script around something that sounds "really cool!"

Nah man, Morbius is too lame to be in the next film. What they should do to make money is have Spider-Man face Edward Cullen for a "Twilight" crossover- and there you go, instant $400 million Domestic Box Office.

I always felt that what they should do if they want more than one villain in the movie is to just start the movie off with something like Electro robbing a bank, and Spidey foiling it all during the first 10-15 minutes of the movie. That way, they get to use some of the more thug-type villains without them henching for a mastermind. Plus, it sets up their existence in case they wanted to do the Sinister Six at some point.

The Lizard idea would've been excellent for Spiderman 3 and a more solid choice than how Venom was brought about. I wasn't particularly fond of the sad sack Sandman turned out to be and frankly making villains pitiable generally kills good vs. bad flicks for me. Even going forward, Lizard makes a solid choice and despite his age I think TM will maintain his boyish looks enough that no one will notice. Now if he pulls a pot-belly, double-chin and starts balding... well the role goes to Elijah Wood I guess.

Whatever they do I hope it comes with Spidey taking a good beating. The third film had a bit of that but it was hard to get into fully because of the way certain scenes were written. The Sinister 6 angle would be cool but no... there's no way in hell it could be pulled off especially since having Venom, Sandman and Goblin jr. proved too much to juggle. Maybe they can get someone to do Mysterio! I've always liked ol' fishbowl head because he came off part Dr. Doom and Dr. Strange in one.. and the fishbowl just cracked me up.
