Bryan Singer Really, Really Wants More 'X-Men'

Bryan Singer says he'd like to direct another X-Men movie, and I can't see any reason why that wouldn't happen. The Hollywood Reporter quotes Singer at the Pusan International Film Festival is South Korea as saying, "I'm still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it."

Singer, of course, directed the first two X-Men movies, easily the best of the four movies in the franchise. Although X-Men: The Last Stand made a bunch of money, neither that film nor this summer's Wolverine really satisfied fans of the series, and Singer's name has surfaced since earlier this summer as a good bet to do something with the X-Men down the road.

But what would it be? The second Wolverine movie? X-Men: First Class? The Magneto spin-off? Singer, of course, also directed the lackluster Superman Returns, and told the crowd in South Korea he's attracted to comic book movies because he can "trick audiences into thinking they're seeing fireworks, but they're learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say."

"The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is — the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition," Singer added.

My pick for Singer is the next Wolverine movie. It's an established brand versus First Class, even though he was previously hinted for that project, and Magneto seems like it's David Goyer's baby. There's also talk of an X-Men 4, but I don't see the point of giving Wolverine and Magneto spin-offs if another ensemble movie is right down the road.

This one's definitely far from over.
