Jolie in Talks to Replace Theron in 'The Tourist'

The upcoming remake of the French film, Anthony Zimmer, has a new leading lady. Charlize Theron had been attached to star in The Tourist for some time, but she has "opted out" according to The Hollywood Reporter, and Angelina Jolie is in talks to replace her.

As The Reporter points out, there aren't a lot of actresses the studios trust for action roles. And, although she can arguably be grating for other reasons, Jolie is the queen bee when it comes to action heroines. Angelina will have the spy movie Salt in theaters next year but after that, she didn't have anything lined up. The timing, therefore, was pretty fortuitous.

However, Jolie is walking into a film that has other problems. Theron's departure was preceded by director Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), who left the film a week ago. So suddenly, this one has an entirely new look.

Sam Worthington was linked to the project back in August, replacing Tom Cruise, although I'm not sure he was seriously involved at any point. Oddly, Jolie replaced Cruise in Salt, which used to be called Edwn Salt. Also curious: Jolie has been shepherding a film version of Atlas Shrugged for years, and Theron recently signed on to star in TV miniseries based on that novel. Weird.

All of this seems like an awful lot of work to remake what is frankly a pretty average thriller, but maybe the new script is a big step up. The original, released in 2005, has some good things going for it, but there are too many pieces to connect.

I hope Jolie does that. The big screen and the audience are missing her doing the action. I think she really is the best choice to do that movie. She is really a real life heroine. With all those movies waiting for her she don’t need cash advance to help more orphans.

Sam Worthington will soon be in Australia to meet the man who he will play in a new war film. The man, Dr. Craig Jurisevic is a trauma surgeon who fought with the Kosovo Liberation Army covertly during the Kosovo Conflict of 1999. Working behind enemy lines, in concert with U.S. Special Forces, Jurisevic managed to save the lives of hundreds of Kosovar civilians fleeing the ethnic- cleansing initiated by Milosevic's forces.

Eva Orner ( Oscar and Emmy winner) will be producing the film and it is rumored that Mark Boal ( The Hurt Locker ) will write the screenplay.

Negotiations underway for director and studio.

Information very reliable: I am good friends with a work colleague of the surgeon and also know that he is publishing a book next year on the same topic.
