OK, So Beyoncé Isn't Wonder Woman After All

In the middle of last week, we shared a story from Comic Book Movie that dropped a strong hint that Beyoncé would be playing Wonder Woman. She's mentioned her interest in the role before, and I don't hate the idea but it did seem like a strange an not wholly believable way for the new to be dispensed.

And that's because it wasn't real.

The website now apologizes for the posting on its comments section by a former contributor, emphasis on "former," who wrote the Beyoncé story to impress his girlfriend. Well, who hasn't been there before? But if that's what he tried to do to get over good with a chick - "Look, baby, I lied on the internet!" - I don't see that relationship lasting very long.

So, here's the deal: There's no story. Beyoncé can be Wonder Woman all she wants, but that hasn't happened yet. There are better choices, but I don't know where Warner Bros. is headed with this one. The most likely scenario is going with a really big star rather than plucking an unknown out of obscurity, just because the studio didn't form DC Entertainment to take wholesale risks, and the delay in getting this movie made alone speaks volumes about a general lack of confidence in a movie based on this character.

I don't have the same doubts the studio must have been feeling over the years; to me, Wonder Woman is a great point of differentiation between DC and Marvel and I think it's more important to find the right Wonder Woman than the biggest available name to throw the lasso of truth.
