Rashida Jones (The Office, that Office knock-off with Amy Poehler) is turning her graphic novel miniseries Frenemy of the State into a movie at Universal. That the film winds up at the sister company of NBC should be no surprise, given Jones' history with The Peacock.

She'll write the script with actor Will McCormack; they also wrote a screenplay called Celeste and Jesse Forever, which is in development at Overture as another potential vehicle for Jones. However, don't look for her to show up in Frenemy. "It's intended for a girl much younger than me, about age 20, an interesting age for girls as they make that scary jump to adulthood," Jones told Variety.
Jones says the lead character, an heiress, "has lived a life of privilege, attended the best schools and learned every language, but her obsession with spying on exes gets her into trouble and she is recruited to be a spy in exchange for not going to prison."
It's hard not to like Jones, who has been solid in just about everything I've seen her in. Plus, she's the daughter of Quincy Jones and all-time hottie Peggy Lipton from The Mod Squad, so that probably trumps your family tree. Brian Grazer apparently feels the same way, picking up this project for Imagine along with production group Closed on Mondays. That company is also running Scott Pilgrim through Universal.
