Murray Says 'Ghostbusters 3' Still "A Bunch of Talk"

Let the hemming and hawing re-commence! Bill Murray's approval has always been needed for a third Ghostbusters movie, and after not really being very interested for better than 15 years, Murray finally warmed to the idea in 2008 when the new video game was being produced. So, on with the show, right?

Maybe not. Murray tells Absolute Radio (via Worst Previews) it all depends on the script. "Well, I don't want to do it yet. There's still no script, it's just a bunch of talk," Murray insists. "It's just a wishlist for someone. Until there is a really good script, I'll stay home. It has to be a serious script before I leave the house."
"I saw a guy talking about the end of the world a couple of years ago, and I haven't seen that either," adds Murray. "So I'm not going to be believe the Ghostbusters story until I see the script."
That will happen presumably within the next several months; Gene Stupnisky and Lee Eisenberg from The Office are still making that happen. But we discussed last week how their Year One screenplay doesn't exactly serve as the best evidence for a potential Ghostbusters story. So Murray is playing it smart. He knows the movie will almost certainly happen but he's keeping the pressure on the writers to turn in a script that's to his liking.
Does he really have that much control? I would think so given paragraph one. So playing hardball is the only way to ensure he doesn't trap himself in Ghostbusters 2 all over again, and Murray cited that film as precisely the reason he won't "leave the house."
Maybe the current writers can only take it so far and then Murray and company can find someone who can deliver a better knockout punch. That's my hope, anyway, at least if we're operating under the assumption that this movie is a good idea.

Murray has control. He's the only one of the three who really re-made a name for himself in the last 5-6 years.
