Leighton Meester, Amber Heard 'Cowgirl' Up

I can think of two great reasons to watch a movie starring Amber Heard and Leighton Meester. One is Amber Heard, and you can finish the equation yourself. Production Weekly Tweets that the pair of twentysomething starlets will appear in what's being described as a "young version of Thelma and Louise."

The flick is called Cowgirl Bandits, directed by up-and-comer Jessica Manafort. At present, there's no IMDB listing for anything called Cowgirl Bandits, although there's an in-development project with the much cooler title The Uncatchable Cowgirl Bandits of Nottingham, Texas. Heard being a Texan, perhaps these productions are one and the same.

That should tell you how much is really known about this film, although there's no harm in giving us a new take on this kind of movie, especially one that aims younger and adds some of that Gossip Girl sizzle. It's not a remake; Thelma and Louise is just a reference point. Surely, with as many buddy cop movies as there have been over the years, we can forgive this.

Meester I've only seen on the CW hit, so I can't say what her capabilities are beyond that character. Heard is appearing in The Stepfather this weekend but her big moment may come opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary next year. I'll say this, though: It's smart casting, because both of them are clearly not on the decline in their careers at the moment.
