Rosewood and Taggart Back for 'Beverly Hills Cop 4'?

Another sequel will pretend part of its own history never happened: Beverly Hills Cop 4 will take place with willful disregard for parts two and three. To confuse matters a little further, the film might actually be called Beverly Hills Cop, which would make you think it's a remake. That's also untrue. It's just a sequel pretending the previous sequels don't exist and it's not called Cop 4 because in terms of this movie, it's part two. But calling it Cop 2 wouldn't make much sense, not that any of this does.

Moviehole reports that, in keeping with the part-four-is-really-part-two business, we'll see the return of detective John Taggart (John Ashton). That's in addition to Judge Reinhold, who was supposedly OK with returning a few months ago. Of course, Eddie Murphy's back as Axel Foley, exponentially raising ticket sales among Hollywood-based transvestite hookers.

Meanwhile, Collider reports that it's unclear if either of those characters will return to support Foley, and that writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (Wanted) have been replaced, even though the new film is presumably still based on a spec script they wrote called Dying Day. In that story, two FBI agents find out how crooked their entire office is and have to fight their way out of it.

It's also a much darker script, so the comedy has to be almost separate from events within the story. The first movie kind of did that, but it was still more comedic (the bungling Beverly Hills PD, etc.) than it was a straight cop drama with comedic overtones.

And you'd have to rely on Eddie Murphy's broken comedy barometer to lift the laughs. I won't be holding my breath. Then, of course, there's the insidious Brett Ratner, who will be directing Cop/Cop 4. Oh, how could this thing ever go wrong?

I thought they should have a family member or associate/kingpin that was either connected with a villian from either part 1 or 2 go after Axel, Rosewood and Taggart. Maybe something similar to Die Hard 3. I don't like the thought of killing off Taggart or Rosewood. Instead of taking place in Beverly Hills for a third time, maybe the film takes place in Detroit. In fact, Rosewood and Taggart come to Axel's rescue after finding out about an assassination plot in those involved in Part 1 or 2.....thus learning how to deal with the rules or lack of in Detroit. Plus we all know that the city of Detroit needs the cash flow. Besides we know all the previous police officers in Beverly Hills but very little about those in Detroit. And change the name to Detroit Cop.

By the way, I agree with forgetting about part 3 ever taking place but come on 2 was okay. If the writers make the film take place right after part one it would be a mistake. How can you justify the actors aging? Have you seen John Aston and Judge Reinhold lately? Do the right thing and have it take place years later. Just read my suggestion

Beverly Hills Cop was a classic. The Beverly Hills Cop II was a solid sequel Beverly Hills Cop III sucked ass. The idea should be dead since Axel Foley is no longer a young hot shot cop from Detroit. And making this Beverly Hills Cop II (version 2) is just plain stupid. Eddie Murphy hasn't been funny in ages. They will make this a PG-13 movie and ruin it like when they did Die Hard IV.
