'Friday the 13th 2' to Open on Next Friday the 13th

In the past week we've received a new trailer for the Nightmare on Elm Street remake that looks pretty good, a halt on Halloween 3-D, which is also good news, and that leaves only one big horror icon left to give us an update. Paging Jason Voorhees...

According to Bloody-Disgusting, the sequel to Friday the 13th will be released - wait for it - on the Friday the 13th in 2010, which happens to be in August. Because using that gimmick is still somehow viewed as clever, it was either August 2010, May 2011 (where it would be crushed by the weight of Spider-Man, Thor, and probably other stuff), or a longer wait until 2012. However, just so you know in advance, the third one of these will very likely be in theaters on April 13, 2012. That year has three Friday the 13ths, January, April, and July.

Before embarking on Friday the 13th: Part II, producer Brad Fuller is still licking his wounds from the poorly received series reboot, which, incidentally, was probably better than every previous film barring the original, and I'm not even sure I prefer the 1978 version, really. "People think our kills were not clever enough," Fuller said of the film's bad word of mouth.

"That criticism goes to my heart. I feel I failed the fans in that those kills were not original enough. So whatever we need to do to make our kills feel clever in our second film is what we're going to do."

I was fine with the first quarter to third of the remake, but after it became just another Friday the 13th movie, there was very little to keep my interest. I just don't know how much can be done with it when the rules don't really change.

Anyone else think it's funny that they state the film will be out on a certain date before they even have a script, let alone a good script? More than any other reason, that's why this movie will suck. Developing a well crafted story and likeable characters takes time and needs to happen organically... yes, I know we're talking about a Friday the 13th film but the fact that the producers acknowledge that all they need to make the film happen are more creative kills makes me believe that this is going to be some crappy wannabe-SAW movie.

The only redeeming quality of the first remake were the one girl's stupendous boobs and perfect nipple placement. Other than that there was absolutely nothing worth recommending.
