LucasFilm Denies Rumors of a New 'Star Wars' Trilogy

It shouldn't really be a surprise to you if you learned George Lucas was working on a third Star Wars trilogy. As long as I can remember, the talk was of nine movies, anyway. That stopped after Jedi, and 15 years later, when Lucas embarked on the rather pedestrian Anakin trilogy, he made it clear he wasn't thinking about chapters seven, eight, and nine.

Market Saw says it has learned that Lucas has warmed up to the idea recently, and would like to pursue the final trilogy in 3-D. A call to LucasFilm by Ain't It Cool News gets a swift rebuke of the idea, but the other part of Market Saw's update is just as interesting: Rather than directing the films himself, Lucas would call on his old friends Spielberg and Coppola to go behind the camera.

There is really nothing for Steven Spielberg to gain by directing a Star Wars movie, and Coppola and sci-fi aren't exactly a perfect fit. But either one would be more intriguing at this point than Lucas. And please, don't let George write the scripts if these movies ever do happen.

I'm not a big enough Star Wars fan to know what the third trilogy would encompass, so if there are or aren't roles for the cast members from the first three films, I have no idea. And yes, I said it: I'm not a big Star Wars fan. The first one probably should have won the Oscar, Empire was even better, and I have zero interest in ever seeing the other four again, even accidentally. So sue me.

There's no doubt fans would go nuts over the announcement of a new trilogy, although that's not what this is. This is insider info that the project is being discussed. Insiders can be wrong, and very often are. But even if this source is correct and the project has been talked about, so what? It's not like the third trilogy is a new idea. Maybe Lucas is looking another five years down the road or something.

If I remember correctly (and bear in mind, I am also not a huge enough Star Wars fan to know all the details that so many know), but I think it had something to do with Leia starting to embrace more of her powers and the birth of twins who are also "strong with the force".

Guess we'll just have to see .......

First off, I'll say I am a big star wars fan and would love to see more star wars movies made. Secondly I hope to God that george lucas isn't involved and the these movies are not made in 3d. I don't know where these people got the idea that movies are somehow better in 3d cuse they're not. Lastly I have read most of the books following the movies and I would have a hard time seeing any of those books made into a movie ofcourse I'm not a movie maker either. I would love to see a Kinghts of the Old Republic movie that would be a great trilogy. If they were to make another trilogy though it would have to take place way in the future and revolve around Leia and Han's twins, which would put Carrie, Harrison and Mark at about the same age they are now which would fit in with their ages in the books. But getting those three back into the star wars movies would be the hard part of this I think.
