Third Trailer for Scorsese's Delayed 'Shutter Island'

What's new and different about the latest Shutter Island trailer? Not a whole lot. The tone might be slightly darker and there are a few images - likely the product of delusions or dreams - that I don't think we'd seen before, but overall, there's just the reinforcement of what we already know.

I still don't see Martin Scorsese's fingerprints on this one anywhere. That's not a bad thing necessarily; he shouldn't only make mob movies. Then again, it could be Bringing Out the Dead, which wasn't very similar to a lot of Scorsese films, nor was it as good as most of them. Shutter Island does look well made, though; it just looks well made by somebody else.

There's still a great deal of curiosity about it, though, and I wish Paramount hadn't chosen to delay the release until February. Stupid awards season (shakes fist).

We don't know anything other than what the studio said, which is that it's too expensive to line up a bunch of movies for Oscar runs, and something had to get shoved. Maybe it got squeezed out of the picture because everyone feels so strongly about The Lovely Bones or maybe Shutter just isn't that great. I have a feeling it could be at least as much the latter as it is the former, but even if it's a miss for Scorsese, his failures are more interesting than most directors' successes.

I wouldn't say that his prints are completely absent. It's hard to tell anyways form the trailer because who knows who cut the footage together and for what effect but I will say that I do see some of his trademark compositions, movements and slow-mos. I can't wait to hear the music he decided to go with...

I'm getting sick of trailers showing too much of the storyline. They should've left the original trailer alone.
