Trailer - Clint Eastwood's 'Invictus'
Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7:16AM
You haven't had to follow the Academy Awards all that closely over the past few years to jump to the conclusion
that Clint Eastwood's Invictus has better odds than most movies of being invited to the party. In addition to the inspiring
story of Nelson Mandela's efforts to unite South Africa through World Cup rugby, Eastwood is working with Morgan Freeman and Matt
Damon. Yep, this one has all the markings of a trophy chaser.

The new trailer has been released, and though I can't get enough of a handle on the accents (always critical in suspending our
disbelief, if they're done well), it looks better than I expected. Well, perhaps "better" is not the word for it. It looks
different. I can't see a lot of Eastwood in the trailer. It's brighter and more colorful than anything I can remember him directing
and because of the packed stadiums, it looks to be more of a spectacle than I'm used to out of Eastwood. It looks bigger even than
his back-to-back WWII movies.
Having said that, there aren't too many movies left this year that I have few doubts about, and this is one of them. I just don't
see a great deal of room for a collapse here, and the trailer reinforces that.
Invictus opens on December 11th.
