Another "We'll Shoot 'Sin City 2' Next Year" Story
Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 8:52PM
Once again, I'll believe it when I see it, but there's more talk that Sin City 2 will film this year. But there are a couple new wrinkles this time. Mania reports that producer Stephen L'Heureux outlines a production start sometime in the second half of 2010, but it won't be based on any of Frank Miller's comics.

Instead, the script will be completely original, and Milller will again co-direct with Robert Rodriguez. That's not a surprise. But why the new script? Hadn't Miller already spent years developing the sequel using his graphic novel series as inspiration? If not, that helps explain part of the delay. Miller has since moved on to working on a screenplay for his Dark Horse comic Hard Boiled, according to L'Heureux.
We've heard a lot of people chiming in about this sequel. Two-and-a-half years ago, Angelina Jolie was going to be in it and it was just a matter of Miller finishing the script. That didn't happen. Beginning last year, Rosario Dawson started talking about it, Clive Owen chimed in recently, and there has never been any independent corroboration of any of these stories. Even still, we're at least eight months away from it going into production by L'Heureux' timetable. That would probably mean summer 2011 or later for a release date even if it stays on this course.
I do wish Miller had stuck it out with his original story instead of creating something new. I mean, anyone who saw The Spirit wants him taking as few liberties as possible.
