With about a month to go before the movie hits theaters, the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: New Moon has topped the album sales charts at Billboard. Last year, of course, the first Twilight was a number one album, too, and was one of the top 50 albums in terms of global physical and digital sales.

We had the track list for you several weeks ago, and there's certainly some good stuff on it, at least in name, but like a lot of soundtracks, this is selling because of its connection to the movie. New Moon leapfrogged the new Michael Bublé album to hit number one, selling around 150,000 copies. That's a 33% increase over last week. Of course, album sales are way down from where they were a decade or even half a decade ago, so a number one seating isn't quite what it used to be.
Rolling Stone says the album probably won't remain the king of the hill for long. Oddly, it's another soundtrack that should take its place. Well, kind of. This Is It came out on Tuesday, and it's expected to sell at least twice as many albums as New Moon did this week. But it's less a soundtrack than another greatest hits collection.
The New Moon disc might experience a spike in sales as we get closer to the films November 20th release date. Of course, the target audience is probably more inclined to download the album, and the soundtrack is topping the Billboard chart for digital albums this week, too.
