Friday, October 30, 2009 at 12:20PM 'Mad Max' Casting Confirmed: Charlize, Tom Hardy
A quick Mad Max update: Variety writes that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are definitely in for director George Miller's latest installment, tentatively titled Mad Max 4: Fury Road. This doesn't necessarily mean Sam Worthington, also rumored for the Mad Max role is out, although that's the strongest indication we can read into it.

The script is so closely guarded that it's hard to know exactly what the details are. For all we know, Hardy and Worthington were up for different roles and they were just connected to Max Rockatansky for the sake of convenience. In fact, to cast further suspicion over the production, Miller told reporters last week that the lead role "could be [Mel Gibson], it could be anyone."
You would think, though, that it would be the first role cast. That's why the news about Hardy seems to make Worthington a slim chance at this point, even if he would be more bankable.
Although we're still a while a way from production, the plan for a fourth movie has been in the works for several years, appearing and vanishing based on Miller's schedule. But it appears that he's about to get down to business.

Hardy isn't really the Max Rockatansky "type," is he? He's kind of Ringo Starr-ish.
How about another young new Aussie star, just as Mel Gibson was young and unknown in the original.
I agree!
Another up and coming australian for the role of Mad Max. It's just unaustralian to have an overseas actor doing what aussie do well and do best in our AUSTRALIAN films. Mad Max is one tough Aussie with guts. NO OVERSEAS ACTORS AS LEAD ROLES IN OUR FILMS. Mr George Miller you should casts Sam Worthington as your lead actor as Mad Max or even that doctor dude that was in All Saints, Jack Campbell with the sexy deep voice. Now they'd both look pretty hot in the black leathers and tough.
