Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 9:40PM 'Blair Witch' Sequel Now Seems Very Likely
A couple times this year, the subject of a proper Blair Witch Project sequel has been mentioned, and
creators Daniel
Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez have even chimed in on it. Now, with the success of Paranormal
Activity, a Blair Witch 3 - which would positively ignore that Book of Shadows even exists - looks closer to
becoming a reality than ever.

Speaking to The Toronto Star, Sánchez says,
"We're at the step where we're about to pitch to Lionsgate, which owns the movie rights now. It's pretty much up to them. They can
completely squash it or greenlight it." If it's the same Lionsgate I think it is, I'd say there's a slim chance this would get
squashed.
According to the writer-director, the film would pick up where the first one left off, whatever that means. I don't want to give
anything away, but...some key characters didn't make it. Sánchez says the idea this time around involves a "mixed first-person"
narrative, and there will be small roles for original cast members Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams.
Obviously, Paranormal has raised interest in the low-budget shaky-cam movie that started it all, and Sánchez says seeing that
movie has really put the fire back in his gut.

"I wouldn't be completely honest with you if I said I wasn't jealous of Paranormal Activity...I'm happy for the guy, but at the same time, there's the feeling that, man, I could have done this. It would have been different and might not have been as good. But I know how to make these films. To me it's like, man, maybe I should go back and kind of milk this one more time."So look for Lionsgate to try to exploit that urge.

This is the best news I have heard all week. I would LOVE to see another "Blair Witch" movie.
Here's to praying that the slim chance this gets squashed actually wins in the end.
