New 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians' Poster

You don't have to throw out all of the following examples to assert that Percy Jackson & The Olympians is not a sure thing, but we will anyway. Of the many Harry Potter gravytrainers, only Twilight really appears to have exceeded expectations. Narnia needs a much better third chapter after Disney dropped it following Prince Caspian, while Eragon, Lemony Snicket, The Spiderwick Chronicles, City of Ember, The Golden Compass, and the brand new Vampire's Assistant have all failed to deliver. In the latest case, Vampire's Assistant probably won't get past $20 million. So we won't see a sequel there.

But the studios all want something similar to the lucre Warner Bros. has made courtesy of its British boy wizard, but it's demonstrably easier said than done. So Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief will have to overcome that genre history as well as a title that's just way too long. I don't love the February 12th release date from Universal, although it does share with Potter director Chris Columbus, if that counts for anything (and it probably doesn't). It doesn't look bad, but several of the movies I listed above were pretty good, too.

Here's the latest poster from Percy Jackson, which clearly emphasizes that whole son-of-a-Greek-god angle:

You hit the nail on the head in your introduction. This movie looks ok (from the 2 minute teaser that we got before "Harry Potter 6"), as does this poster, but man I'm so sick of these wannabes.
