Marvel's 'Thor' Adds Stellan Skarsgard

Though Alexander Skarsgard was a rumored favorite to take the role of Thor in Marvel's upcoming superhero movie and I'm still not sure he wouldn't have the been the best choice, but he was passed over in favor of Chris Hemsworth. Now, Skarsgard's dad has joined the cast.

Back when Skarsgard the younger was in the running, it made some sense to think of Stellan as Odin, keeping it all in the family. But now Brian Blessed has that role, although Skarsgard won't say what character he'll be playing for director Kenneth Branagh.

"They wanted me to sign [a contract] without reading the script," he told Sweden's Ystads Allenhanda. "When I refused, then sent the script to me that was so secret that I could only print one copy."

The movie also stars Natalie Portman, who's the big draw, and British actor Tom Hiddleston as the evil Loki. Filming commences in January and Thor will be part of the giant-ass summer of 2011.

Something just doesn't feel right about this one. It could well be the greatest Thor story ever told but I foresee a fate worse than the two Hulk films combined. Then again, I did underestimate the drawing power of Transformers 2 and G.I. Joke so what do I know?

I'm less than encouraged. Look at what they turned Galactus into: A big spacey dust devil. Asgard, it be hard.
