Liam Neeson Joins Russell Crowe in 'Next Three Days'

Probably because he led the biggest pre-summer movie of the year, Liam Neeson is being sought out for all sorts of roles. The A-Team and Clash of the Titans were big pick-ups for him, and following the shocking death of his wife, Natasha Richardson, Neeson might be looking to work just for the distraction.

Those are kind of larger-than-life movies, though, where a lot of the expectation is for explosions and action. Neeson has just signed on for something that could be a little different. He'll join Russell Crowe in Paul Haggis' new thriller The Next Three Days. Variety has some plot details and more casting news, including Olivia Wilde, Brian Dennehy, RZA, and Daniel Stern.

"Russell Crowe [plays] a teacher whose wife (Elizabeth Banks) is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn’t commit," writes the trade. "Several years of incarceration leaves her suicidal and he plots to break her out. Neeson plays an ex-con who has broken out of jail multiple times, has written a book about it, and shows the teacher how it's done."

The Next Three Days is actually shooting now...and so is The A-Team, so my best guess is this film will work around Neeson's schedule in Vancouver. Haggis' film is expected to be in production until mid-December, so that should give Neeson a fair amount of days to come in at the end and shoot his part.

It's Haggis' first film since The Valley of Elah, and the first time he'll work with Lionsgate since Crash won the Oscar.

Amazing casting choice, it will be remarkable to see true heavyweight acting titans (pardon the clash of titans pun) to work together (crowe & neeson)

Love it...

Just got back from the Pitt campus in Oakland (part of Pittsburgh). Dozens of Haddad trucks, trailers and vans are lining the streets and they're shooting right now. I was told Russell Crowe was there - no one mentioned Neeson. Both excellent actors, and it's always a kick to see films set in places with which you have personal familiarity.
