Beyoncé Kind of Confirms She's Wonder Woman

A few months back, Beyoncé Knowles interjected herself into the superhero discussion, admitting she'd be up for playing Wonder Woman. Actually, she went so far as to say it would be a "bold" move to cast a black Wonder Woman, and there's some legitimacy to that, although I think the character shouldn't be a lilywhite chick, anyway, just because of the connection to Amazons.

Still, it was a little blip, no different from someone saying they'd like to work with Martin Scorsese down the line or something. But now Beyoncé apparently likes the idea so much she's putting a ring on it. Comic Book Movie reports that the singer and actress told reporters at a press conference that she's meeting with the writers of GI Joe and Max Payne director John Moore in the coming months to see how they can completely ruin this project. I'm sorry...that's not exactly what she said, but with the writers of GI Joe on board, that seems kind of inevitable.

Beyoncé also said the film might go into production in mid-2010, which would signal a release in the already jam-packed 2011 superhero schedule. All of this is news, of course, and if there's any truth to it, you'd think warner Bros. would have made some sort of announcement piggybacking on its recent restructuring of DC Entertainment. That was only a few weeks ago, so it seems unlikely that the writers and director for such a big DC project would be made public this way rather than at a time that would make the most sense, but maybe those deals aren't set in stone just yet.

As for Beyoncé in the starring role, the only beef I have is that I'm not sure she can sell the action or the intensity of the character. She just doesn't strike me as tough in any way. I have zero problem with Warner and DC looking for a big star because of the franchise potential; that's just part of the game. But how far can a franchise go if the star isn't believable? I still can't explain why I'm the only person in the world who loves the idea of Rosario Dawson for the role, but whatever.

You're not the only one who thinks Dawson would be great for the role, I totally agree... I think Scarlett is the most viable choice from both a looks and business standpoint though, but Dawson is the better actress. Beyonce is a bad choice besides the looks/body.

Sorry but hardly anyone actually thinks rosario dawson is hot, sorry she's just not. But I dont want a died haired blonde like Scarlett either. Cant say I've really thought about who i would want but I just want someone who fits wonder woman. And this is also why I hate when Hollywood gives people breaks like Beyonce in Obsessed, because its never just one movie they end up ruining someone else always has to bring them in to ruin a second movie. Beyonce's star is dying so she has to ruin the anticipation of people who want to enjoy this movie

Despite disagreeing with just about everything being said above, I have been re-thinking my choices and Rose McGowan might make a pretty good choice for Wonder Woman. She has the look and the athletic bod to be an action heroine (ie. Red Sonja). If Ryan Reynolds can be two comic heroes why can't she?

Well, for starters, we have no idea if she'll be a good Red Sonja. She didn't exactly earn the role, you know?

My only thing for Wonder Woman is I think she needs to be tall. I really don't think they can cheat on that one and make the character too believable. Wonder Woman doesn't have a big support system to rely on in fights or a muscle-bound suit or something: It's basically an actress in a glorified bikini. I don't think ScarJo or Rose will look the part since neither is over 5'4" tall. Not very Amazonian. That's why I liked Rosario from the beginning, but I also think Moon Bloodgood from the recent Terminator could be a strong choice, too.

Theoretically, Biel (5'8") would work, but I think Dawson's a better actress.

I'm more flexible on the skin tone, because after all, Olga Kurylenko just tanned to play a South American in Quantum of Solace, but I think picking the runt of the Amazon tribe might not be the best way to go.

If you don't think Beyonce is tough enough you obviously haven't seen her whup some Ali Larter ass in "Obsessed". Oh no she didn't! *snip-snap*

Seriously, though, I had never thought of Rosario Dawson for this role but that'd be a great choice!

I should also add that as long as the writers for GI Joe are involved it doesn't matter who they cast - this movie will suck!

Sadly, no, I missed Obsessed, but only because the studio had no confidence in screening it for the press, which is a shame.

She might be fine. She's a better choice than Jennifer Love Hewitt, in any case.

I like the idea, its a stretch for her as an actress and I think she'll be up to par...

The production team worries me, like everyone else I see...

Do your thing Beyonce and put a ring on it.... nice little inclusion there Colin..lol

What about Emily Blunt? Would she work? I don't really see the point of getting into it all that much, considering WB has no plans to make this movie in the timeline suggested.

I'm suspicious of the timing, too. Like I said, if it were this imminent, they'd have announced Wonder Woman with the DC Entertainment news. Personally, I thought they should have said announced something at that point, just for a wow factor.

As for Blunt, I'd have to see her do some action. Big fan, though.

Olivia Wilde

I vote Charlize Theron

Blunt, Wilde and Theron (although all great and great looking actresses) are far too thin... Wonder Woman must be curvy and built. They can make short (Scarlett or McGowan) look taller but its hard to make thin look voluptuous.

Actually it's not at all hard to make a slender woman look voluptuous. They have all manner of padded clothes and/or prosthetic pieces to pull off that hat trick. I'm going to toss Katherine Heigl onto this bonfire as well. Despite reports of how she is off camera she does good enough in front of it for a role like this. I like Moon Bloodgood as well but not as much as Eva Mendes.

WAIT WAIT WAIT! we are going from Joss Whedon.....to the writers of G.I.Joe
Thats whats happening, that seems like a better choice.
I dont need any further proof that the studios are run by complete idiots.

I stand behind the author of the post with the choice of Rosario Dawson, I hadn't thought of her before, but once I had it made perfect sense. She's a bit angular, not as curvy, but as an actress I think she can carry the role. Beyonce sucks, she can't act her way out or into a paper bag and quite frequently overacts. Plus there is something so disingenuous about her that translates across even onscreen.

In case no one has gone back to the article on Comic Book Movie, the whole thing was a hoax, and they have now banned the user that posted it.
