Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 10:10AM Ryan Reynolds Saves the Day in 'Motorcade'
It seems like everyone kept wondering when Ryan Reynolds would stop being the next big thing and become the kind of A-lister his sense of humor and charm has hinted at for years. That time is now. He's coming off two big summer movies, and you could argue that The Proposal was actually a bigger hit than Wolverine and that its success had more to do with Reynolds.

As a result, Reynolds has already been announced for two superhero movies and the very intriguing Buried, in which he's supposedly the only character in the entire film and most if not all of it will take place in a coffin. Now there's one more film Mr. Scarlett Johansson is attached to, this one with Jon Cassar, the director of the recent TV movie, 24: Redemption.
It sounds like a good fit, too: Motorcade is about "a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time with the US President is kidnapped in New York," writes Variety.
If the film sounds familiar, and not because it bears a slight resemblance to In the Line of Fire, it might be due to the fact that we've heard about this project before. Tom Cruise was linked to star in it once upon a time and Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) was set to direct. Those plans dissolved and the film sat idle for a while, but now it will go in front of cameras in late summer or early fall of next year, probably right after Reynolds finishes work on The Green Lantern.

I'm not trying to come off as gay here.
But Ryan Reynolds is godlike.
He's cut like chiseled marble.
The guy is damn sexy.
Ever since Buying the Cow and Van Wilder, which were actually two great movies, I knew he would do well for himself in finding roles. He's always had that kind of silly charm to him, and it shows through in all of his work. Amityville wasn't what it should have been, and honestly Adventure kind of through me for a spin with sticking him in a smaller role. I'm glad he's finally getting the attention from the studio's that will grant him a pass to some new material, instead of typecast romantic comedy crap.
ROCK ON REYNOLDS WRAP!
Don't worry Nick...it doesn't sound gay, because bottom line...he is truly amazing. He is always fun to watch and makes any role more entertaining. Can we start a petition to get Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place out on DVD already. I have called FOX eleventy times trying to get a copy. No dice. Colin, can you use your skills to make this happen? We all know you have power in the biz.
Yeah I thought Tom Cruise was attached to this in the beginnning which would have been a far better film and choice in lead actor...
Everyone is gushing about Reynolds but Im not on the bandwagon necessarily, or maybe I should say yet...
I mean the guy has charm but mediocre at best in my opinion, and his talent isnt too great, I mean when you have chosen roles in the past such as Van Wilder, your reputation with me kind of takes a huge hit....
The film obviously fits for him, the description is a CIA agent=ripped muscle guy, who knows how to shoot guns, I mean come on, Ryan is built and everyone knows this, so it makes sense...looks the part
Still think Cruise wouldve made a better film and far better acting ....
-thats a guy who has some real charm especially before all the scientology garbage
Sean,
I think Reynolds is a fantastic actor. Van Wilder (in my opinion) was pretty good. But look at other films, not as big. The Nines and Fireflies in the Garden are two very good movies (I personally love The Nines). Also, I think Reynolds shined in Smokin' Aces (particularly with the powerful ending).
Anyway, that's just me. But I would recommend The Nines, at the least!
its not gay at all, you make a good point. and as far as Tom Cruise having better acting, im not so sure of that. Reynolds has some very good acting, Van Wilder showed his comedic side along with ...Waiting. Amityville, The Nines and Smokin Aces showed us a more serious side. The Proposal and Definitely, Maybe show his rom-com side, and Blade 3 & Wolverine with his action. He is an all around actor and very good. I personally cant get enough of him. I'm ready for some more of his movies now, he cant put them out quick enough. i love how he incorporates little lines of comedy or the sarcastic/ smart-ass way he says things. One of my top 3 actors easily
