Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 8:45AM Gerard Butler Not So Sure About '300' Sequel/Prequel
There is nothing new about sequel talk or prequel talk regarding 300, the movie that not only was one of the biggest surprises of 2007 but also stands as the primary reason we're seeing so many sword n' sandal movies in various stages of development (Clash of the Titans, Conan, Red Sonja, etc.). The trouble is, the story's not really written for a part two and a prequel might not offer too much that's different.

Still, the rumors continue to fly and Zack Snyder and Frank Miller say the door is open, depending on the story. Clearly, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures want more Spartans, but in order to do that, you might want to work King Leonidas back into the story. Tough to imagine that in a sequel, of course, so that places more emphasis on the events before 300.
For his part, Gerard Butler tells MTV he doesn't know "how real" the franchise talk is. “I had an incredible time doing the first one, and I think that if the first one was a stand-alone, as a one-off, there’s no bad thing in that,” he says.
Agreed, and I'd rather Miller, Snyder, and the studio take that to heart rather than try to force a second chapter to a story that already feels complete. I suppose if they can really crack the prequel, then that's fine, but it still feels like that would only happen because they feel they need another movie, not because the story automatically opens itself up for it.
But while Butler doubts the project is going anywhere at the moment, he does admit he's still curious about the prospect. "Let's see what it might bring forward with a second one," he says, automatically putting the pressure on everyone else to deliver a product he's really excited about before committing any futher. Frank Miller reportedly finished the graphic novel for the sequel this summer, and if it's a sequel in the chronological sense, then I don't see how or why Leonidas even needs to be involved.

Yeah its ridiculous and just dumb, no other films, prequel, sequel, treequel, lol whatever, I dont want to see it period
300, itself I liked but hated as well, I mean it did bring back that genre just as you brilliantly proved Colin, and also had some action, and themes of loyalty, honor, pride, and guts...and did really launch Gerard Butler's career which is cool b/c I kinda like him he's not all that bad
But the film itself was blatantly racist and had multiple racists undertones, I mean when you portray another country who we the US are not on good terms with at the moment as barbaric, non human, deformed, transvestite looking people, that isn't very cool...
--as well as releasing the film on their cultural holiday which was obviously intentional in my opinion
And, I'm not the only one who has this opinion, many recognized critics expressed such ideas much more articulate than me, see AO Scott of the New York Times, great article he had....
