Ivan Reitman "Attached" to Direct 'Ghostbusters 3'

We recently updated Ghostbusters 3 from Harold Ramis' point of view (to catch you up, he's completely on board, as is everyone else from the original cast), and now comes word from Bloody-Disgusting that Ivan Reitman is attached to direct the threequel.

I get the sentiment, I really do, but the only good movie Reitman has made in 20 years is Dave. And believe me, reading the list of misfires is depressing. He's got a better eye as a producer now, but if his son Jason were interested, well, that would be a different story.
Bloody-Disgusting also says that Reitman "hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct" Ghostbusters 3, so there's still some wiggle room. Of course, the next logical choice would be Ramis, whose only good movie in the last 20 years also came in 1993 like Reitman's Dave; that was a little something called Groundhog Day. But neither guy is at the top of his game behind the camera.
My discomfort with either director comes less from their own foibles in recent, well, decades and more from the fact that the script is kinda sorta being outsourced to Gene Stupnisky and Lee Eisenberg. They're both Ramis connections, which explains the screenplay for Year One - which was absolutely lousy - and have experience on The Office. But that's it. So...writers I don't have a world of confidence in and directors who aren't what they once were grabbing the reins on a part three following a pedestrian second chapter by over 20 years. What could go wrong?
There's a plot update as well: "The sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers 'reopen' their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years," writes Bloody-Disgusting, adding that everyone, including longtime hold-out Rick Moranis, has signed off on returning. I had not heard that Moranis, who retired from acting about a decade ago, wanted to have anything to do with this. It's too early to talk money, so maybe he just feels a kinship to the project? I don't know; I need a bit more before believing he's back.

The Ice Harvest was also pretty good. As long as he has a decent scrip Ramis would be good.
'Ice Harvest' was OK. Better at the beginning and the end than it ever approached in the middle. Great book, incidentally.
