Gucci Family Unhappy About Ridley's Salacious Movie

A couple weeks ago, it was reported that - out of nowhere - Ridley Scott would begin working on yet another film, a 1990s family murder drama about fashion's Gucci family. The rumors have Angelina Jolie in talks to play Patrizia Reggiani, who planned the murder of her husband, Maurizio Gucci, just as he had taken over control of the family business. The younger Gucci would ideally be portrayed by Leonardo Di Caprio.

Sounds great...unless your name is Gucci. According to Variety, the family feels "bamboozled and betrayed" by Ridley's wife Giannina Facio, a producer of the project who assured them that it would not be a scandalous movie. "This is not an authorized movie and we will try to block it if it is offensive," said Patrizia Gucci.

"Enough mud," Gucci continued. "We have been through horrible things and paid plenty in person. I will write a book about the Guccis to say who they really are. And I will give Scott a copy, in hopes that his movie will never be released."

I am supposing that Ridley and the rest of the producers have acquired life rights for this movie. There might be some wiggle room here contractually, but the odds are if the Guccis took money in exchange for their story, there's not a whole lot they can do about this movie. And it's not as though Patrizia Reggiani wasn't convicted of planning her husband's murder; she's about halfway through a 26-year prison sentence for the crime.

If this all sounds scandalous, it's probably because, well, it is. But I don't think there's much that can be done to stop the movie at this point.
