'Wanted,' 'Kick-Ass' Writer Millar To Direct Movie

Mark Millar's work is already well-known to a lot of movie fans. Last year, his graphic novel Wanted stromed the summer box office. His 2010 comic adaptation, Kick-Ass, looks like next year's Zombieland, and possibly even more fun if you can imagine that. And now, Millar says he's going to direct a superhero flick.

Comic Book Movie has the story from Millar himself, which is heavy on the introduction but light on the specifics. "What is it? Who is it about? Well, that's all a secret for now," hinted Millar emptily, "but I learned a lot from Kick-Ass and love having the same creative freedom I have with comics when I work in cinema."

Millar said his film could go in front of cameras as soon as March, but I don't think this would be one we've already heard about, a Marvel or DC product. There are two reasons that immediately come to mind: Even though he has that major label experience, Millar also writes his own comics. Also, neither DC nor Marvel would take a chance on a rookie director in a situation like this. But we can dream, I guess.

So can Millar, who says he's pursuing directing just for the challenge. "I Have two other pictures about to go into development, but I think you need to scare the hell out of yourself every once in a while, and something totally new like directing should do the trick."

Nobody, you are quite wrong..frank millers first directors job was a smash "Sin City" which was a HUGE hit and an extremely good film.
Please for the sake of your own stupidity...check your facts before commenting.
Wanted was also a good film...too far fetched for some..but its still a great film. If it was'nt such a great film..dont you think it would've bombed at the box office?
Anyway I hope mark millar gets his shot and gives it a go...if his films are as good as his comics..then ill be very happy

He's from Coatbridge, so I'm sure he'll be able to handle directing, nae bother!

FishFish if you could read you would see how I said SOLO debut. Sin City was his first shot at co-directing sure but The Spirit was his SOLO debut. An overacted, overwritten and stylistic carbon copy of the much better sin city. It was just plain BAD.

Wanted had some cool moments, I'll give you that but as a whole it was shite. Not to say that was MIllar's fault cause I'm sure that it worked on the page as a graphic novel but on film it didn't. Im not against the guy getting a shot but I am wary because not all crossovers pan out.

And to make some kind of connection between Box Office and Quality shows how stupid you really are, if anyone saw the amazing piece of garbage that was Transformers 2 . Good points though, way to go...

I must be one of the few people alive who really enjoyed Wanted, for as wholly silly as it was. And I couldn't agree with you more, Anybody, on the regression from Frank Miller working with an accomplished director to getting to make all the decisions. Kick-Ass</I> being self-financed by Matthew Vaughn should show - if it's as fun as the trailers and clips make it appear - that you don't need to pump $100 million into every last one of them to get something compelling in return.

I am stoked to see Matt Vaughans Kick Ass... for somebody who started out as a producer I never had high hoped for his transition but after two solid efforts he's really proven himself.
