'Smallville' Gets Two-Hour Justice Society TV Movie

Anytime we bring up Superman around these parts, someone invariably chimes in with what a good idea it would be to cast Tom Welling because, after all, he's played Clark Kent on Smallville. I don't know about that, though; he's kind of a different interpretation of the character. I mean, it could work as well as whatshisname, but I don't think it's perfect for a series of films.

But to appease fans of those, there's going to be a Smallville movie. Kind of. It's a TV movie, which may or may not count depending on your perspective. For instance, how can you accurately rank the best westerns without Lonesome Dove or keep Band of Brothers out of a list of the greatest war epics?

Entertainment Weekly reports that the Justice Society two-part installment of the show, written by Geoff Johns of DC Comics fame, will be combined into a two-hour movie/special event. The episodes, titled Society and Legends, will feature Stargirl, Hawkman (always a personal favorite), and Dr. Fate.

Even though there was a character named Geoff Johns in a previous installment of Smallville - it was no coincidence - this is the first time Johns has taken a crack at writing episodes for the show. He has previous TV experience, but this is his Smallville introduction.

The CW thinks this move is a great way to build momentum for the February sweeps period, and that's probably true. So look for this on January 29th. One curiosity about it is that Welling directed one of the episodes. Usually you can't tell much difference between one episode and the next of any show, despite rotating directors. He's directed a handful of episodes before, so it probably won't be visible.

This show is pretty lame but I might check it out just to see Hawkman and Dr.Fate. I hope Welling never plays Superman in a movie.

well I don't have any additional skinny, but Justice Society, Dr Fate, Hawkman, and the word legends would indicate they're looking to introduce the characters from the Golden Age, from the 40's. The corker would be if they threw in the Earth 2 Superman.

How is this show still going. I liked the idea, it worked at first. But its just dragged on to long. He should of gone to metropolis by now. A proper continuing story.
