Brian Cox Rumored for Dwarf Role in 'The Hobbit'
Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 1:08PM
With production on The Hobbit now just a few months away (although one wonders if the recent news about MGM's possible sale will alter that plan a bit), we should start hearing a lot more casting news. Here's one that makes sense: Brian Cox as one of the dwarves.

Cox has worked too much in the past few years, so his impact has been a little watered down (thanks, stupid Loch Ness Monster movie). But when he's on, as in the Bourne movies, X2, and Adaptation, Cox is a fantastic and valuable character actor. But this kind of move is in line with what Peter Jackson and company did for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, casting these fantastic and versatile performers from the UK instead of mega-stars.
Ain't It Cool News reports the rumor, but offers no firm details, other than producers have been considering Cox for a role. He'd be a fine addition, but until we see who Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro settle on for Bilbo Baggins, it's hard to get too excited about the supporting roles.
