The Other Paul Anderson Now Directing 'Castlevania'?

It's a real shame that Castlevania has become such a troubled production. It's a cool enough video game to make the transition to the big screen, but it could be on its third director in about 18 months.

At first, Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) was attached to direct...and then the project kind of went away. Then earlier this year, original Saw director James Wan threw himself at the project with Paul W.S. Anderson producing. We wrote a little bit about that in July, with Wan saying, "I'll be working on the script with a writer to give it a new spin, different to the previous versions. This will have my stamp on it, which Konami is very excited about."

Or not. Shock Till You Drop quotes producer Jeremy Bolt as indicating that Anderson will be directing and he's waiting for yet another script. I wonder how much all this indecision has cost the producers. At a certain point, you've either got to commit to something or commit to not making it at all.

If Anderson is the director of choice, he'll have to juggle a few things if Castlevania is going to happen in the next couple years. As a director, he's on the hook for Resident Evil: Afterlife and a 3-D Three Musketeers, and a handful of other projects he's producing. It's one way to keep costs down, I guess, but this is just another hurdle for a movie that doesn't need any more of those.

Does anyone else still have high hopes for Castlevania at this point?

"Does anyone else still have high hopes for Castlevania at this point?"

At this point, all hope is lost if Paul W.S. Anderson's gonna direct it...
