Kate Hudson Front and Center in New 'Nine' Trailer

It's like they were eavesdropping on us yesterday. Around 24 hours ago, we had some clips from Nine, musical performances featuring Penélope Cruz and Kate Hudson. I apologized that neither clip was of the highest video quality and lamented that they weren't full performances. Then: Poof! We get a new trailer with a high-quality and much longer performance of Kate Hudson singing "Cinema Italiano." Weird. So here's the latest trailer for one of the bigger Oscar contenders left to arrive in theaters this year. It opens on December 18th, which is a good target for a movie that seems to have a lot in its favor going in. Since it's already such a front-runner, it may not need the extra lead time to build momentum. If the movie's not as good as it looks, then the late release date will help keep the film in voters' minds in spite of that. But if it's great, so much the better if you're the Weinsteins.

Trailer courtesy of Yahoo! Great or not, there's not another movie this year playing in the same arena as Nine and that will probably help its chances more than hurt them. And that Golden Globe could be a foregone conclusion.
