Mel Gibson Too Old and Slow for 'Mad Max 4'

The Mel confirmed to Australia's Herald Sun - a newspaper you have to read counter-clockwise, incidentally - that his Road Warrior days are over. Gibson discusses his bad luck when it comes to being too old for roles, such as James Bond (I had heard it was more due to his height) and William Wallace in Braveheart, although that's probably just nitpicking.

For Mad Max, though, it's something of a storyline because director George Miller is pushing forward with Mad Max 4 and because Mel was in the first three, naturally his name came up again. Details on the fourth movie are scant, but we know British actor Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron have been cast. Does that mean Hardy is Mad Max? Probably. And we know now that Gibson has nothing to do with it.

"I'm a bit old and long in the tooth for that number," Gibson admitted, adding that he recently spoke to Miller, but not about a role in this film. "You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker."

Gibson returns to theaters next year with Edge of Darkness, but check out this little confession: "I guess I didn't really miss [acting], because when I came back to it recently, it wasn't the same thing. It used to mean more."

So there's that.
