Spike, Fuqua Enjoy 'Better Living Through Crime'

Antoine Fuqua will be teaming up with Spike Lee for an adaptation of the graphic novel Miss: Better Living Through Crime. Variety indicates Fuqua will direct and the Knicks' biggest fan will produce, but this still qualifies as a Spike Lee Joint, I believe.

Vigilante Entertainment still has that the new production company smell, and will develop the film with Lee and Fuqua. If you've never heard of Better Living Through Crime, it's a period action piece about seemingly mismatched characters named Nola and Slim. Miss is set in prohibition-era New York, a great time and place for any kind of crime story.

"Nola is a poor white girl who has learned to survive by hook or by crook since being expelled from the orphanage. Slim is a black pimp with an uncertain past, trying to keep one foot out of the grave. Story revolves around a poor white girl and a black pimp who forge a partnership as killers for hire."

No offense to Antoine, but hasn't every movie he's ever made been kind of like this? I'd rather see what Spike could do with it, so long as it wouldn't bloat like Mirale at St. Anna. Of course, this isn't open to discussion, but I think we're probably missing something with the current alignment.

There's no studio or timetable yet, but the casting should be interesting when the time comes.

Yeah casting would be pretty cool to see the outcome....given Spike Lee has clout Im sure some big name actors would like to get attached

The project which Ive never heard of, sounds actually very interesting and could be very good...

Yea Fuqua is getting stereotyped into directing these types of films and should be careful in the future...

I think Dakota Fanning would make a good Nola (maybe too old) , I mean it certainly would expand her horizons right? Playing opposite a pimp and both are killers, she would be a good pick...
