How Many Actresses Will Be Rumored for Black Cat?

Ever since Rachel McAdams laughed off the rumors that she would be cast as Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, the role has become one of the hottest topics around. McAdams never auditioned or met with producers about it, but Romola Garai did. I like Garai (the grown-up Saoirse Ronan in Atonement), but there's not a whole lot of name recognition there.

Then there was news that Julia "Furious" Stiles had a chat about the role, although I just have a hard time seeing that. I certainly can't see that selection over McAdams, at any rate, who apparently was never asked. And now Nikki Finke has learned that Anne Hathaway has been "approached" for the part of Black Cat. Hathaway...Dunst...way to stock up on overrated actresses, Sam Raimi.

Never been much of a fan of the Princess of Genovia, but she does give the film a bigger star than any of the other names we've heard. She was pretty good in Get Smart, I guess, which would be her most similar role to this. But her ascension immediately made me think of her Devil Wears Prada co-star, Emily Blunt.

She was the original Black Widow in Iron Man 2 but had to drop out over a contractual obligation with Fox. That landed her in the much more perilous position of co-starring with Jack Black in Gulliver's Travels. That's probably going to suck. And Blunt provides a little more sex kitten danger than Hathaway usually conveys. If nothing else, it would make for a nice reparation.

However, if producers really have talked to Hathaway and she really is listening, that little item would probably stick. Damn it.

Look, if I'm the director of a coveted superhero franchise I can think of no better way to get personal one-on-one meetings with starlets willing to do just about ANYTHING for a lead, exposure getting role than to make up a character that requires them to wear a tight form-fitting cat outfit and hold private lap-dances, er, I mean auditions.

Well played Sam Raimi, well played!

First off Colin, you come off as smarmy.

"Furious"? AHAH, I get it, you saw Boyz N the Hood too and Larry Fishburne was named Furious in that film.

How astute.

And what's with the overrated actresses riff you jaded ass? Im not a fan of Stiles and don't think she shoul get the part, nor McAdams but don't be a douche...........

What's with the overrated actress riiff? I find Anne Hathaway and Kirsten Dunst to be unnecessarily fawned over. Those were the two performers I was referencing, as should have been evident by the statement, "Hathaway...Dunst...way to stock up on overrated actresses, Sam Raimi."

And if you think that's smarmy, I'm glad you apparently didn't read the article on the Ryan Reynolds-Anna Faris rom-com TMI, which I said might spawn a TV spin-off called TMI: Miami.

Lol jeez Bryce is kinda harsh...

But gotta admit Colin, didnt necessarily agree with your "overrated actresses of Hathaway and Dunst"

Screw Dunst, to be honest, I think at a point she was very good and amazingly good but now Im not too big a fan of hers...her ability seems to be limited and she seems as though not to take acting seriously,..

But Hey, comon with the Hathaway overrated??? Come on.... She's amazing, her ability, her sensitivty, her selection of roles, she is my generations greatest actress in my opinion, I mean she did TIE MERYL STREEP IN AN ACTING AWARD WIN, forget which one, was it Critics?

Of course people fawn over her, they should, she's just beautiful and astounding, look at her body of work and then her age, she has some career ahead of her, Im a huge fan....

Her selection of roles? Pick five. And one award doesn't mean anything; look at Cuba Gooding. Or Whoopi Goldberg. Or Joe Pesci. Or Tatum O'Neal.

And if you think she's the best actress of her generation, I suppose you've just missed Natalie Portman's career or the work of Michelle Williams? Keira Knightley has done more challenging roles in a shorter amount of time, and has never stooped to something like Bride Wars.

good point ! lol with the bride wars bit there

Yes thought , very much agree, Natalie Portman and Michele are quite talented as well and Keira yes I completely forgot ....

Keira, Ann, Natalie,Michelle would be my ideal order but hey yes they are the greatest young actresses working today
