Monday, November 23, 2009 at 6:21PM James Cameron and 'Avatar' on '60 Minutes'
I guess when a movie costs as much as Avatar, the real price tag - whether it's $250 or
$300 million, or $400 or $500 million - really isn't the point. It would be nice to know a total, either with or
without the oft-hidden marketing expenses, but we've heard just about everything from a quarter-billion to a
half-billion.

Avatar and James Cameron were featured on 60 Minutes last night, and the number the show reports is $400 million. I guess the real point here is that this is an awfully expensive film, to the point that the money spent may be a very big gamble. For Cameron, that's fine; this is his dream project. "I've been working up to this for a long time, he tells Morely Safer. "This is the film I always thought I wanted to make when I set down the
path of being a filmmaker."
It's a predictably excellent short feature from 60 Minutes, and you almost always get exposed to new details when they chronicle filmmakers or entertainers, because Morley Safer isn't going to ask junket questions all the time. Take a look:

So now that you've seen a little more and heard a little more from Cameron, are you more eager to see Avatar? I really go back and forth on it, and I guess I won't have a real indicator until I see it, because the 3-D is so pronounced.

i don't get why people are so excited about this. I heard it was going to revolutionalize filmaking but i just saw a quick featurette and basically this is like a robert zemekis motion capture movie. And the graphics aren't that spectacular. What exactly is this film supposed to do?
i though the trailer for this looked bloody awful.
Gotta see the long 3D trailer. Its gonna be epic! Give it a chance, Cameron has given us something we've never seen before so many times in the past. I still remember the 1st time i saw the Abyss and T2 when i was a kid. The guy knows how to give us the greatest stories and at the same time something we have never seen before. In my opinion he may be the best at what he does
nice movie...
