Kat Dennings the Latest to Land a Role in 'Thor'

It's pedal to the metal time over at Kenneth Branagh's big Thor adaptation. The casting came slowly but surely for about four months, but here lately, Marvel has ramped up the ensemble quite a bit. In the past week or so, Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend, Idris Elba, and Tabadnobu Asano have all been confirmed, and on Monday, it was reported by MTV that Natalie Portman broke the latest cast news.

Kat Dennings, late of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, will be part of the hammer swingin' fun, although it was not immediately made clear what role she might play. Thankfully, SpoilertTV had a casting announcement back in October that seems to be a very good fit for Dennings:

“[MARCY LEWIS] (20) Is a college student. Aloof, jaded beyond her years, she thought her internship with scientist Kate Spelling would be an easy 6 college credits. However, she’s been stuck for months in this small New Mexico town and relegated to a wide range of unglamorous activities. Kate has been particularly hard on Marcy, making it her personal project to see that Marcy lives up to her potential. Marcy deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.”

I doubt, based on everything Thor has to accomplish - especially because I'm not positive it can generate a franchise - the Marcy Lewis role won't be a major factor in this film. Now, if there are follow-ups, then sure, why not? Dennings can act, the best is to come for her, and she's not going to break the bank.

But for the purposes of the 2011 film, she's just another good card in the deck. Thor goes into production in January, so expect that key first trailer at Comic Con in late July unless they race to get one done in time for Iron Man 2.
