Mia
Wasikowska will go from one famed literary heroine to another. The star of Tim Burton's Alice in
Wonderland will star in a new version of Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre. As different as the roles might sound on the surface, Variety says Jane
Eyre won't be exactly like the ones you might have seen previously.

“The project is a period piece but will play up the gothic elements of the story about Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who
discovers her surly employer Rochester (Michael Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret," reports the trade, adding for the
sake of redundancy, "The book is one of the most iconic in English literature and has been the subject of numerous previous
adaptations.”
If it already sounds a little different, go ahead and add Sin Nombre filmmaker Cary Fukunga to the mix. I can't say for sure
what this will look like on screen, of course, but I'm reminded of Baz Luhrmann's radical Romeo + Juliet, although they're
keeping this new Jane Eyre in its original period, or some period, in any case. But I always look forward to stuff like this,
so long as there's some direction to the update.
Incidentally, you might have heard about a Jane Eyre that was set to star Ellen Page. Yeah, same one. But she's out. Probably
for the best, home skillet. Not that Page can't act - in fact, she's very good in just about everything I've seen - but I don't see
her matching the moody, gothic period piece.

Wow, this is funny. I'm actually reading "Jane Eyre" for the first time now (well, I should've read it a semester ago for my English class, but now I feel bad, so I'm catching up!). I'm digging it. To me, this Mia girl definitely looks the part, and I'll have to wait to see "Alice" in order for me to judge her acting ability. Otherwise, I'm kinda excited for this. If it's half as amazing as "Pride and Prejudice" with Keira Knightly...
Completely agree with the Ellen Page remark, home fry, shouldnt be allowed anywhere near this...as a matter of fact I do like her and her acting ability has been good in everything we've seen of her but I'm beginning to feel like she's a one trick pony, a typecast...
Mia seems like a fantastic choice. She's young, she'll be a household name once Alice hits theatres, I'm predicting it will do huge numbers better than expected, and her ability is yet to be seen but I have no doubts...
Great choice in Michael Fassbender, I remember him in Inglourious and thought he stood out in a very positive way, and thats saying something especially when you have Christoph Waltz leading the helm brilliantly
