Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 8:27PM 'Zombieland' Sequel Might Be in 3-D
I honestly think Zombieland is almost too good to put in the guilty pleasure category, but now it's taking a step that might more closely align it with My Bloody Valentine, which is nothing but a guilty pleasure. Director Ruben Fleischer talked to Moviehole this week with some details about the proposed sequel, including a strong possibility that it could be in 3-D.

Fleischer says, “The genre really lends itself to [3-D]”, which, of course, it does. Very well, even. So that's pretty good news. I do think instead of pushing the envelope of 3-D, though, this is kind of a gimmick that lets the filmmakers really take the gloves off and just go nuts.
With 3-D, you're already altering the average moviegoing experience; it becomes much more conscious that you're watching something, and when the fourth wall comes down, there's no getting it back up. So going this route with a property that was already peeking over the fourth wall to begin with meshes pretty well with the style Fleischer (and the fans) are comfortable with.
Don't expect a bunch of wholesale changes just because Sony might push this 3-D, however. Fleischer believes all the principal cast will be back again, although the story is up in the air. My guess is zombies, though. Lots of zombies.

I dont know if anyone shares this opinion...But hasnt there been way too many films all going for 3D?
Im sick to death of seeing it...everything is going into 3D, its like the whole vampire craze lately because of the pile of shite that is twilight.
Is the age of "Normal" cinema dead?
FishFish I completely agree with it. Did "Up" need 3D? Hell no, and although it was a remarkable film, it was an unremarkable experience to me. All 3D is to me is a gimmick, a way for movie studios to sell higher priced tickets for some corny visual effects, as well as a way to combat piracy. At least, that's how filmmakers treat it. I don't care how the film looks or whatever; the only way that i'll be truly "immersed" in a movie is when the story and characters draw me in. That's what people need to realize- it's all about the quality of the filmmaking itself.
Back to reality...
Loved "Zombieland". Wouldn't like to see a sequel, 3D or not, but "28 Weeks Later" was a great sequel (IMO) to a film that could've standed alone if it wanted to, so this could work as long as it's not just "See Woody kill zombies...AGAIN!"
