Sign Up For an Interactive 'Harry Potter' Blu-ray Event

In a new trailer for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Blu-ray, Daniel Radcliffe invites fans to join him and director David Yates for a special live "community screening" of the film on Saturday, December 12th. If you're not familiar with the concept, this is the third time Warner Bros. has tried something like it, first with The Dark Knight and earlier this year with Watchmen. However, I believe this is the first global event of its kind.

Here's how it works: Once you buy your Blu-ray disc, you can register it at BD Live, with the first 100,000 assured a seat at the table. The screening of the film begins at 8p GMT, so do your own cipherin' from that point. While you're watching the film, Radliffe and Yates will answer fan questions during their running commentary of the film.

“I’m really looking forward to the live community screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and excited to talk directly to fans of the movie about my experiences and answer their questions,” Radcliffe said in what was clearly an extemporaneous statement. “It’s a wonderful way for fans and for those directly involved with making a film to share opinions and ideas.”

No argument there. And if you want another reason to pick up the Blu-ray - as if you'd skip the sixth movie in a collection you've already built out to five - the disc is supposed to feature the first footage from the seventh Potter movie, due in theaters next November.

About the only catch here is that you have to buy the Blu-ray, and you have to get on the good foot once you do: The film will be released on home video on December 8th in the states, meaning the community screening is only four days later. That doesn't give you much time to pick it up and register for the event.
