Clooney One of Alexander Payne's 'Descendants'

George Clooney may have found his next project. He has three films in theaters in the next two months - The Men Who Stare at Goats, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Up in the Air. Then he's got The American with Anton Corbjin, which he's filming now in Italy. But now he has an Alexander Payne movie in his future.

Clooney will begin shooting The Descendants next February in Hawaii, reports Variety. It'll be Payne's first movie as a director since...uh...Sideways? Yes, that's the one. That's five years ago, if you can believe it. Instead of directing, Payne has been in the shadows as a producer on a handful of films since. But he's back again, although uncharacteristically, he's not writing this time. Perhaps the fact that his last screenplay credit is I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry tells us something.

The film is described as a family dramedy, which are words I genuinely hate to put together like that with no notice; forgive me. Clooney, who produces a lot of films himself, is not attaching his Smoke House label to this one. Instead, Payne and his usual partners, Jim Taylor and Jim Burke for Ad Hominem.

I'm assuming Clooney will play Matthew King, a Hawaii land baron who has to deal with life (and his two bratty daughters) after his comatose wife is taken off life support.

You can't really blame Payne for Chuck and Larry. That one was seriously Sandlerized.

I thought Chuck & Larry was funnier than I thought, I actually thought it wasnt half bad given the genre and silly premise...

Alexander Payne, its good to see you back, and Clooney seems like a sure fire thing, I was at the theater not too long ago waiting for An Education to start (BRILLIANT FILM) his trailer came on for Goats, and everyone was seriously transfixed and so into him...

Me and this girl I was with were probably the only people under the age of like 45 lol in the theatre, so that just goes to show Clooney has fans with my generation (18-25 age range) as well as the (45-60 yr olds) and pretty much everyone in between...

I'm not blaming the movie on him, exactly, but his résumé would still be better off without it. I mean, how did that even happen?
