Michael Bay: 'Transformers' "Can't Get Bigger"

I'll spare you the video (although you can see it here if you wish), but Michael Bay is talking Transformers 3, and what's on his mind may surprise you. "It can't get bigger, we have to figure out to go sideways and I'm wondering where to start," Bay says.

"What I'm doing is having Hasbro send me tons of lore and stuff like that, things that we can draw from, and I just have to let it simmer. Definitely more has to be made of Bumblebee in the third one, that's a relationship you want to explore more. And I think we're definitely going to get more into the robot characters."

I'm not sure we need a lot of robot depth, because I don't know exactly how you convey that with nothing but effects. But on this point, I agree with Bay. I know...I can't believe it myself. "The third one doesn't have to be as big, we could go darker. It definitely has to be more emotional, it not going to be just about action, action, action."

Yea, verily. The first film was not just action, action, action, either, and so it was a better product. But the sequel stunted any emotional growth of the characters and it just devolved into these mammoth set pieces for most of the film, which, as we outlined in our review, was a good 20-25 minutes too long, anyway.

So who knows? Maybe they can right this ship. Or, you know, blow up the ship in slow motion against a backdrop of a sun-kissed sky with driving guitar rock drowning out idiotic dialogue. One of those.

Oh it can get bigger. If only he did not ask for transformers Lore. Know what you find as Michael Bay, you find Unicron, a transformer that changes into a planet and he eats planets for fuel.
How can he resist, its Armageddon + Transformers all rolled into one.
