Owen Wilson Just Gives Up, Will Star in 'Marmaduke'

Hey, wait a minute...Owen Wilson's career is over? Drillbit Taylor notwithstanding, I guess I missed the official memo. I don't know what other conclusion I can draw now that I've learned he'll be part of the upcoming Marmaduke movie. I guess the only thing left is to take roles that even Robin Williams turns down.

While The Hollywood Reporter doesn't say what role Wilson will play in the film, I have a hunch it will be whatever character is the most hard-up for cash at the moment. Actually, through some other sources, it appears that he'll voice the giant Great Dane. Finally! A voice to put with Marmaduke after all these years!

But don't think The Butterscotch Stallion is alone in chasing after that Alvin & The Chipmunks kind of action: William H. Macy, Steve Coogan, Judy Greer, Emma Stone, Fergie, and the incomparable George Lopez are all involved in Marmaduke, as is director Tom Dey. His best film is Shanghai Noon...and there you go.

Here's what The Reporter was able to dig up about the plot for the live-action/CGI flick: "In adapting the strip created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, the script by Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio sees Marmaduke navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace."

If you love your kids, aim higher.

If I recall the tabloid headlines correctly, Owen Wilson gave up awhile ago. Better career suicide than the real deal.

Hey, you all just do not get it! Owen Wilson is going to be great in the movie! Part of Owen's Charm and Charactor is his wonderful voice! Any one that says this is a jump for CASH OR CAREER SUCIDE, IS THE REAL IDIOT...Owen Wilson is the most versital and wonderful actor of our times, he works very hard on all of his films and takes every part very serious..... For those of you who have nothing but negative thoughts about his discission to play Marmaduke, HERE IS A LITTLE INFORMATION FOR YOU!!! HOLLYWOOD=VARITY!!! If you can play and convert to many parts you will always be able to get work. And Owen works because he loves it, he loves to create and give, Not all in life is about Money, and yes the money is good...So before you judge someone, why not consider the whole picture. Owen Wilson is one of the hardest and sweetest Actors in Hollywood. So get it right before you post crap on a website, do your homework.....Sans a ba

Yeh... I specifically come here for all the Owen Wilson hate so if you could gladly continue. Oh and don't forget to do your homework too. It's rather important especially the spelling assignments.

One thing's for certain, he'll play it differently than he has all his other roles, as he always does. One word daddy, "multi-dimensional." Okay, one hyphenated word. (And let me just say, I know a lot of people were confused by the whole suicide/Kate Hudson thing, but the more I've thought about it, the more I begin to understand it. I mean, her mother was Goldie Hawn dammit!) And George Lopez too! How are they ever gonna be able to capture the magnitude of his talent in a mere cartoon? BTW, I'm looking forward to a rave from you when his talk show debuts Monday night. No doubt from that moment, all of our lives will be forever changed.
