Cage Sure About More 'Treasure,' Not 'Ghost Rider 2'

I bet Nic Cage wishes this year was over so he can turn the page and start all over. All the financial issues and whatnot, the passing of his father...he'll be glad to have a fresh start. One way to get back on the positive side of the ledger might be to make some surefire popcorn goodness, and you know what that means: Sequels.

Cage updated MTV about two possible follow-ups, National Treasure 3 and Ghost Rider 2, or what I'd like to call Ghost Ridest. The outlook is better for audiences with Treasure, because at least the first one was a fun diversion. The outlook for Cage is better, too. "I like those movies, because I think they entertain families and give families something to look forward to," he reasons. And that's always a good thing, you know?"

They're also close to goldmines, and could be the perfect remedy for a guy whose life has taken an unexpected turn off-camera.

Now...Ghost Rider. That's a different matter altogether, partly because you could make a good movie with the character but that certainly wasn't the case a couple years ago. Writer David Goyer said the script for the sequel, which he wrote almost ten years ago, isn't exactly a note-by-note continuation of the story they used back in 2007. It's darker and more existential, according to the writer.

Trouble is, Nic doesn't know what the status of the film is. "I don't have all the details and I really don't want to talk about it right now," Cage said, adding that he doesn't know if Eva Mendes will return or anything else, up to and including his own involvement.

What's the rush? Just go make the National Treasure movie, focus on getting back to the basics there, and let the flaming skull burn out.
