First Look at Jaden Smith as 'The Karate Kid'

Here's our first look at the new Karate Kid, courtesy of People. That's Jaden Smith next to Jackie Chan, and is it me, or does it look like Will's kid isn't growing at all?

I know that Chan and Jaden Smith sitting around talking is not exactly what you're most interested in seeing here, but you'll just have to take People's word for it that young Mr. Smith "mastered front kicks and upper blocks through his hard work ethic and dedication" while training for the flick. Jaden says he trained for four months and Chan, not the least bit swayed by a hefty paycheck from the boy's father, insists that Jaden "took the training very seriously. I was impressed with him."

The new movie, due out on June 11th, has a few changes, which, with any remake, is really the way to go. I'm not sure every change they've made in this case was the wisest option, but we'll see. Chan is not playing Mr. Miyagi; he's now called Mr. Han, though I understand that's the most significant alteration where he's concerned. Obviously, the Daniel character - now refashioned as Dre - is a little younger than Ralph Macchio's character, and as you probably know, the movie is set in China rather than California.

It's been 25 years, so you can certainly make the case that the original is due for an update. But I think it's a harder case to make that this is the version we should get.
