A Few 'Scream IV' Hints from Kevin Williamson
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:12AM
Kevin Williamson is finally unveiling a little bit about Scream IV, telling MTV that the screenplay is
coming together well. Actually, two scripts are being written: One for the fourth film and one for the fifth. Remember,
they're not rebooting this for a one-off. Dimension (and likely director Wes Craven, as well) are fashioning a new trilogy.

But first things first: "The fourth one is an ensemble," Williamson says. "It'll take place right now, 10 years [after the
first trilogy], and it's going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro." We have heard conflicting reports about
what Neve Campbell will be up to, most recently that it's a minor role. Williamson says, "We'll have our three main characters, and
we'll be introducing several more," but that doesn't tell us much about Sidney.
What it does say, though, is that it's just her, the Arquettes, and a bunch of newbies. As you might suspect, the newbies will be the primary characters throughout the trilogy, so I'd say Sidney's a goner in part four, and Dewey and Gail might not make it through the next flick, either.
The other primary concern is how this series will play ten years later. Williamson's got that covered, at least in theory."I guess I'll just have to be very aware of the fact that we're a '4' and that we're beating a dead dog. I'm going to make that very apparent in the dialogue," he confirms, making this one sound a little more comedic than the series as a whole, which already walks that line. "It's the age of the remake! And 3-D and all that [other horror fad material], can you imagine what Stab 10 is like?"
Oh, yeah. That. I forgot about Stab. Can we just skip that part this time? Who's going to watch Scream 4 to see the movie-within-the-movie?

Scream is a pretty great film with a great script. It felt kind of fresh and new (or at least the 90s ironic installment of the 70s genre greats) but two and three suffered badly from self-seriousness and that movie within a movie stuff. I totally agree with you, I'd drop the Stab stuff if I was him and move on... Neve playing the Drew role n the first and having then 'the saved by the bell, the new class take over (Sid is probably a teacher or something).
