Matt Damon Re-Bourne in New 'Green Zone' Poster
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 12:48PM
Not too long ago, the first trailer for Green Zone bounded online, and it's one of those situations where you hope that's not all there is to it. Pretty standard fare, really. I kind of feel the same way about the new poster, which premiered earlier today at Empire. You can see the whole deal by clicking on Matt Damon somewhere.

Its release was delayed by Universal, and because Damon and director Paul Greengrass have earned a certain level of respect - especially when working together - we'll assume moving Green Zone wasn't ducking awards season but was, instead, for some unforseeable post-production stuff.
The poster's not exactly bowling me over, either. It does smack of a Jason Bourne also-ran, and I really don't like the tagline that resides underneath the title. Could be another example of the Body of Lies Effect: Weak promo materials hurting an otherwise perfectly good movie.
I just expected more punch with these, given the major players. It is nice to see that Universal is fully committed to the R rating, and that it chose a better title than some of the alternates: The Imperial Life, Operation Anaconda, Vigilante Story, and Gray Fox Programme. Green Zone will be released on March 12th.

I really just hope it isn't all about how much the US government sucks and incompetent they are... really tired of that crap.
Well, then, I think your argument should be leveled at government incompetence.
I agree with Mr Boyd. And perhaps Brandon could go even further and present an argument debating why and how previous US governments sucked, and how the present US government - and future US governments can stop this historical suckageitis from ever infecting the rest of the planet again.
Clearly this looks too Jason Bourne-ity and it's a role that would've been better served by Steve Carell. Just picture the potential outtakes between him and Kinnear, epic. Not that I'd throw Damon off in a corner somewhere; he could take the helm as Carell's Despicable Me character! It would be a nice change of pace from the in-your-face action flicks Damon's so commonly known for. Could Carell be believable in the soldier boy role? Sure and for the spots where he might falter ...that's where the movie magic comes into play.
Attack of the liberals... Seriously though, I said all about I am fine with 50% or less of a incompetence factor, just not more than that. Panda, you live in China right?
