Weird Trailer for Casey Affleck's 'Killer Inside Me'
Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7:38PM
I read The Killer Inside Me about 25 years ago, and in general I'm an admirer of the work of pulp novelist Jim Thompson. His most recognized works are probably that title, The Killing (later turned into an early Kubrick film), The Getaway, and The Grifters, released as a film over 10 years after his death. I heard about him while growing up in Oklahoma, because that's where he was from.

The Killer Inside Me is a whale of a book. I wouldn't say it's a must-read, but it's tougher than a bus station corndog. It's been turned into a movie before, and a new version was filmed this summer mostly in Oklahoma, even though Thomspson's book is set in Texas. Casey Affleck plays the sociopathic lawman Lou Ford, and you'll see what I mean when you watch this promo trailer.
According to The Playlist, this is very likely what's being used to sell the film this weekend at the American Film Market. It's longer than a normal trailer because they're trying to push this film to a distributor, and it's also not edited the way we're used to trailers being slapped together. So take that into account. But it looks really, really, really warped, and that's exactly what it should look like. Watch for Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson, by the by. This hasn't been Red Banded (because it hasn't gone through the MPAA), but it should be. You've been warned.
I doubt the finished product will look this washed out. Maybe it is, but there's nothing flattering about that if that's the coloring process they end up with. If you watched the entire thing and didn't just scan for Jessica Alba here and there, you can see it's going to be a tough sell to both moneymen and audiences. But noir and crime fiction purists might really dig the hell out of it.

this looks damn good. casey affleck never fails to impress. he was robbed of best supporting actor in 07.
Looks like something Brewster would do. Very nice, glad they're not aping the Kubrick tree.
Because it was actually a leading role, but wouldn't be nominated in that category.
Just fyi...although it's not Redband...the trailer might be considered NSFW for some.
Man...that's tough to watch. Looks very very good...but brutal. Nice to see both Alba and Hudson doing something possibly respectable.
Oh yes, I actually meant to point that out yesterday. I should make that addition to the text...
That looks pretty great and equally messed up... I love the genre so I will be checking it out but I can already tell that it won't be making a lot of cash money. Not for general audiences thats for sure.
This looks very intriguing. I've seen a lot sicker stuff than that, so I don't think this will be a hard sell to audiences at all. In fact, it looks to me like it has huge "hit" written all over it. Great acting by all.
