Taylor Swift Spoofs 'Twilight' on 'SNL'

They've got a pretty good cast over there at Saturday Night Live these days, with Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen standing out in my mind fairly consistently. But the writing is usually not very strong. Granted, it doesn't help that Taylor Swift is the best host you can get to kick off November sweeps, because it limits the kind of sketches you can do.

On the flipside, you can also incorporate Swift in more teen-based material, which is why the highlight of last night's episode was the SNL Digital Short called Firelight. It's a spoof of Twilight featuring Hader not as a vampire but another famed movie monster. Swift does an effective Kristen Stewart, actually, although seeing Hader in this make-up sure makes me miss Phil Hartman's Frankenstein.

Oh, because things are so bad at NBC, you have to watch an ad before the short starts. It's only a few seconds, though.

Swift was good yeah, and so was seeing Will Forte in the Billy Burke role (especially with that sweet 'stache).

This always irks me ever since I read the book long ago, but it's not "Frankenstein" it's "Frankenstein's Monster". That's me being nitpicky however.

She should have just been the music guest with an appearance in the digital short. At least if shes only the music guest I can fast forward through that crap on my dvr. There was no reason for her to be in the scared straight skit, she added absolutely nothing. Will Forte and Keenan Thompson are also great on the show.

Both of those guys can be really inconsistent, in my view, particularly Thompson. He's better than he was a few years ago, though. And you're right: Swift should have only been the musical guest. A weak crop of guest hosts for the most part this season.
