John Cusack Would Love a Part in 'Preacher'

Kind of a strange series of quotes from John Cusack during the 2012 junket. The actor was talking to io9 when the subject of comic book movies came up. Now, normally, it's been my experience that Cusack's not big on talking about his work or the business in general, preferring baseball as a topic of conversation, or just about anything else.

But he was more than willing to talk about comic book movies, his desire to work in one, and that the comic book that has his interest is Preacher, the adaptation being produced (and possibly directed) by Sam Mendes. Oddly, Cusack never brings up Mendes' name, nor does he even know the name of the comic at first, but describes enough of the story that it can be the only story he's talking about.

"There was one or two that I heard of that sounded really cool," said Cusack. "One of them was about, I think...it's a vampire and a killer, and they're on the road, and it's this really strange story." Well, that's Preacher, and after he's prompted, Cusack admits that's probably the one he's referring to.

He also reveals that he has already put out feelers about playing a part in the film, which John August is writing and has no exact production schedule just yet, so far as I know.

So who would Cusack like to play? "I'd say either the vampire or the priest. One of those two guys."

The film needs a star, and preferably someone with a hint of darkness. That would certainly be Cusack, and since I think we'd all like to see him in big films that don't have anything to do with Roland Emmerich or planes crashing into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, this sounds good to me.

He's a bit too old, and American, for those two roles but he may work as the serial killer journalists.

When you say "serial killing journalists" do you mean the Sexual Investigators!? I sincerely hope they keep them in the movie but I highly doubt it.

I love John Cusack but no way would he be a good Cassidy or Jesse Custer... Cassidy's a violent Irish vampire & Jesse Custer is a violent good ol' boy type.

Cusack is a good actor but I don't see him in any role in this film, maybe john wayne since you don't ever see his face an he could probably pull off the voice. As for the actual cast, tough call... karl urban for jesse, ciillan murphy for cassidy, michelle williams for tulip.
