Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 8:22AM Christopher Eccleston Is the Walrus
If your only exposure to Christopher Eccleston has been as Destro in that unhaltingly silly G.I. Joe movie, check out his work as Doctor Who from the BBC's 2005 season and in 28 Days Later. He's certainly good but he hasn't had that signature role at the right time. Could playing John Lennon be it?

Eccleston will play half of Lennon-McCartney in a new BBC Four-produced biopic called Lennon Naked. It covers the pivotal era of John's life between 1967 and 1971, as The Beatles completely redefined music with Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, and Abbey Road, and Lennon redefined himself, splitting from first wife Cynthia and marrying Yoko Ono, and branching out on his own following the demise of the group.
The movie comes on the heels of another Lennon movie, Nowhere Boy, which arrives December 25th in the UK and covers John's life through the early days of The Beatles. The Guardian says the film will air on BBC Four next year.
My only hang-up is that, while there's a tremendous resemblance, Eccleston - who turns 46 in three months - is already six years older than Lennon ever was, and this movie covers John in his late 20s. If you were doing a "last days" kind of movie, this casting would make much more sense. If you're wondering, Naoko Mori will play Yoko, and Andrew Scott plays McCartney.
