First Look - 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'
Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 3:40PM
We told you last week that on December 12th, Harry Potter fans can take part in a worldwide community/interactive screening of Half-Blood Prince in honor of its DVD/Blu-ray release next Tuesday. I bring that up because this first picture from the seventh film, part one of The Deathly Hallows, reminds me that the Blu-ray has the first footage available for that film. So think of this as a teaser for something coming next week, which itself is a teaser for something else coming much later.

USA Today published that picture earlier today, with a plot outline from Rupert Grint, who told the nation's newspaper what the three amigos are going through in round 7a. "They're paranoid...It's quite a scary world because the Snatchers and Death Eaters are running around everywhere," Grint says. "Harry, Ron and Hermione are just camping out in random places, living rough, in regular clothes."
The latest film has pushed the Potter franchise to an unprecedented $5.41 billion worldwide, before DVD, before TV rights, before merchandising, before additional book sales. I was a bit surprised that Half-Blood Prince trailed off relatively quickly in the US, but the film still made well over $900 million around the globe. In fact, five of the 19 movies that have grossed over $850 million are Potter, and half the franchise is in the top eight grossing movies ever.
I fully expect the two Deathly Hallows movies to be in that same arena, meaning it's entirely likely the eight films will turn this into a $7 billion series.
